PRESS CLUB Q & A!

Q: How are the American Image Press Club and the IFPO Press Programs different?

A: The Press Club helps you get published, build name recognition and find buyers for your photos. The IFPO Press Program concentrates on press access through assignments for Today's Photographer Magazine for members only.

Q: Will my Press Club card get me in at the ball park?

A: No. Although the Press Club membership card may be helpful in certain situations, it is not a press credential. It is not designed to help you gain access to special events. However, Press Club affiliation may occasionally result in assignments from publications which will get you into a variety of events.

Q: Can the Press Club get me published?

A: Yes. The press Club is committed to helping members get published and make money selling their photos. Through the Photo Submission Service, the Press Club assists you in properly organizing photo-article submissions, recommends changes and makes suggestions about where to submit packages. They will even submit the package for you. In addition, when contacted by publications, they will review Press Club members files and may recommend you for assignments for which you qualify.

Q: Do I need the Press Club if I'm already a member of the Press Program?

A: You may. If you need available outlets to sell your work, the Press Club can help. The Press Club tells you what editors are looking for, which publications buy photos, how and when to contact them and how to increase your chances of getting published.

Q: Can the Press Club help me even though I have already been published several times?

A: Yes. Your experience coupled with immediate access to publishers and photo buyers who use freelancers will enable you to make 5-10 submissions in the same amount of time you would normally allocate to two or three. That should increase your chances of getting published by the same ratio.
